Hand-wipe board cleaner for flux after component placement

VIGON® EFM is a flux cleaner for removing flux from boards by hand. It is a halogen-free solvent that dries quickly and leaves no residue. It is supplied as an aerosol can and as a liquid can.

VIGON EFM

Stronger flux cleaning than IPA, and it dries faster

Compared with IPA (isopropyl alcohol), which is widely used on the assembly floor, VIGON® EFM dissolves flux far more readily and lifts baked-on soil quickly. Fast drying shortens visual checks and drying time, so the job takes less time.

In one case, the work took less than half the time.

How it differs from absolute ethanol and parts cleaners

Absolute ethanol and ordinary parts cleaners can leave some flux ingredients undissolved, so a cloudy white residue may remain. VIGON® EFM is made for flux, so it removes the flux and lowers the chance of that white residue.

Features

  • Strong cleaning and fast drying shorten hand wiping
  • Effective on no-clean solder
  • A brush for the aerosol can is available for hand wiping

Cleaning example

In a changeover from IPA to this flux cleaner, manual board cleaning took less than half the time.

Aerosol can

  1. 1. Fit the brush

Attach the dedicated brush to the aerosol can.

  2. 2. Spray the flux residue

Spray VIGON® EFM directly on the flux on the board.

  3. 3. Wait 10 to 30 seconds

Leave it for about 10 to 30 seconds so the cleaner wets the residue.

  4. 4. Brush if needed

If needed, rub lightly with the brush to lift the flux residue.

  5. 5. Rinse

Remove the brush and spray the whole board again to rinse.

  6. 6. Dry

Dry with an air gun, or leave it to dry in the air.

Questions

Can flux be left uncleaned?
Automotive, aerospace, and communications work often needs high reliability, so flux cleaning is required to hold quality. IoT and automated driving have made cleaning more important each year.
Can no-clean solder be cleaned?
ZESTRON flux cleaners can clean no-clean solder and no-clean flux. It is harder than a paste made to be cleaned. Cleaning depends on the solder type and formula. Share the board and the paste, and a cleaning test can point to a suitable cleaner.
Water-based or solvent?
Cleaners fall into water-based, semi-aqueous, and solvent types. Water-based cleaners emit less VOC, and many are not classed as hazardous goods, which helps with safety and rules. Solvents can dissolve oily residue more readily. Density, cleanliness, the cleaning method, and the rules all matter, so a cleaning test is the way to compare them.
Spray, ultrasonic, or jet?
Each ZESTRON flux cleaner is developed for a cleaning method, and the range covers those methods. The cleaner and the method together decide the result, so the process should be built as a pair. A cleaning test is the way to check which method fits.
